IAEA experts arrived in Kyiv

MOSCOW, August 30 – PRIME. IAEA experts heading to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant arrived in Kyiv, CNN reports.

Ukrainian troops are trying to prevent the visit of the IAEA to the ZNPP, Pushilin said
Earlier on Monday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the organization’s mission is already heading to the Zaporozhye NPP and will arrive on site this week. Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna, stressed that the agency’s specialists set off in the morning.
“A group of 14 experts … arrived in Kyiv ahead of a planned visit this week to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine,” the TV channel reports.
As The Wall Street Journal reported, the IAEA inspection of the station will begin on August 31 and will last until September 3.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity. Since March, it has been guarded by the Russian military to prevent leaks of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Energodar, the surrounding villages and the territory of the ZNPP adjacent to the city.
