Video accelerator GIGABYTE GV-N710D3-2GL based on a 28-nm NVIDIA GK208 graphics chip (Kepler). It consists of 192 CUDA-cores 16 texture blocks and 8 blocks rasterization. GPU runs at a nominal frequency of 954 MHz, which completely corresponds to the reference parameters.

The video card’s memory is built using four Samsung K4W4G1646E GDDR3 chips with a total capacity of 2 GB and an effective frequency of 1800 MHz. Data exchange between the graphics core and memory is carried out via a 64-bit bus with a bandwidth of 14.4 GB of information per second.

Cooling system

The cooling system of the considered adapter has a compact size. It does not even completely cover the front side of the printed circuit board, covering only the graphics processor and memory chips. The dimensions of the cooler are 76 x 57 x 12 mm. Its design includes a radiator and an axial propeller.

For blowing, a small ARX FS1250-S1033A fan with a blade diameter of 37 mm is used. The rated voltage of its operation is 12 V, and the current strength is 0.17 A, which gives a total power of 2.04 watts.

The aluminum heatsink itself is painted black and contacts the GPU through a thin layer of thermal paste. Considering the low heat dissipation level of the NVIDIA GK208 GPU, this design should be sufficient for effective heat dissipation.

At the first stage of testing the cooling system, we checked the efficiency of the cooler in automatic mode, in which its blades rotate at a speed of 4270 rpm. At the same time, the graphics core heated up to 74 ° C, and the fan worked at 49% of its maximum power. The noise from his work was at an average level and was slightly intrusive when he was near the computer for a long time.

At the next stage, we fixed the cooler rotation speed at the maximum (5620 rpm), due to which the GPU temperature dropped to 65°С. However, in this mode, prolonged work at the computer will be uncomfortable due to the significantly increased noise.

In idle mode, the noise from the cooling system fell below average, as the fan was spinning at 33% (1930 rpm) of its maximum power. GPU temperature did not exceed 36°C.

When evaluating the efficiency of a cooling system, the first thing to consider is the size of its fan. With a blade diameter of only 37mm, it cannot be very quiet because it must spin very fast for effective airflow. We also note the empty design of the radiator itself – the presence of fins would increase the effective heat dissipation area and reduce temperature indicators. On the other hand, GIGABYTE GeForce GT 710 (GV-N710D3-2GL) is not designed to run heavy applications, but if necessary, its cooling system can ensure stable operation of the graphics adapter.

We managed to accelerate the video memory from 900 to 1189 MHz (an increase of 32.1%), which is also an excellent result.

During overclocking, the fan speed was fixed at maximum, and the GPU temperature was 77°C. The power consumption of the entire system during overclocking increased from 142 to 150 watts.
