Intel recovers lost market, after AMD stole market for 2 years

After two years behind AMD in the processor market, Intel appears to be getting back to where it was. According to an analysis by BCNR, a Japanese market analysis company, the blue manufacturer has once again increased its share of the Japanese market, especially due to mid-range CPUs, while AMD has been losing ground.

The BCNR report, published last week, indicates that Core i5 processors are dominating, reaching 35.7% of the Japanese market, followed by Core i7, with 25%, and AMD recently appears in third place, with the Ryzen 5, with 12.6% market share for January of this year, 2022. The fourth and fifth place also belong to Intel, with the Core i3, with the 10 .4% and the Core i9 which has 7.5%, according to the report.

The report corroborates the trend seen by PassMark in the desktop processor market share. PassMark Software has a huge database as it is evaluation software. According to the latest update, Intel occupies about 60% of the desktop marketwhile AMD has around 40%.

During the third quarter of 2021, the companies had practically the same share, with something around 50% for each. But since then, Intel has grown while AMD has lost ground.

Intel occupies about 60% of the desktop market.

However, it is important to note that this data refers to desktop computers and not to machines built by an OEM. In the laptop and server sector, AMD is a long way behind Intel’s share.

One of the reasons given by experts for AMD’s loss of market share is the lack of mid-range and entry-level processors. Meanwhile, Intel in early 2021 was already hard at work with its 11th Gen Core i5s. In addition, AMD has not yet released anything from the Ryzen series with 3D V-Cache, announced since mid-2021, which may have kept some customers waiting.
