Through the schedule of the next International Conference on Solid State Circuits, it was revealed that Intel will present its new ASIC “Bonanza Mine” on February 23, designed for Bitcoin mining.
Unfortunately the schedule only provides the title of the topic to be covered in this talk, which mentions “Bonanza Mine: An Ultra Low Voltage Energy Efficient Bitcoin Mining ASIC”, confirming the name of the chip and its purpose.
Raja Koduri had already anticipated that Intel was working on mining hardware
In a recent interview, Raja Koduri, Director of Intel’s Graphics Business, said that Intel was working on dedicated hardware for mining to leave Intel Arc graphics cards to gamers, although we all related that they would release something similar to graphics cards. Nvidia CMPs, which are basically repurposed GPUs for mining cards without video outputs and cheaper cooling solutions, geared towards mining Ethereum and other GPU-minable cryptocurrencies, and not a chip designed from the ground up for Bitcoin mining .
The launch of this ASIC for Bitcoin mining could completely change the rules of the game, since normally these ASICs are difficult to obtain and have a very high energy consumption. The work of a large company like Intel with all its years of experience could improve this aspect, and also improve its availability and ease of access.
It will be interesting to see what features “Bonanza Mine” has, including its hashrate, consumption, and price, which are the three important factors when mining. For this, it will be necessary to wait minimally until February 23, although there is the possibility that it will be announced before since products have rarely been announced in this type of conference.
