Intel Xe graphics card for “around the corner” games

Last year, Intel unveiled its first dedicated graphics card in 22 years, Intel Iris Max, also known by its code name DG1. However, based on Intel’s new scalable architecture Xe which was first introduced with “Tiger Lake”, DG1 did not target games.

Instead, later in 2020, Xe-HPG was introduced, where HPG stands for “High Performance Gaming”, unsurprisingly specifically aimed at gaming performance. The new game-oriented circuits will be in graphics cards that currently go by the code name DG2, which Intel has begun to meet expectations for, among other things, teaser on Twitter. Now DG2 should be as close as “around the corner”, according to Intel developer Pete Brubaker.

In Brubaker’s post, where he puts up a job advertisement on behalf of Intel, he says that it is about to be exciting. Intel has previously shown a screenshot of new performance tests in 3DMark, and indicated that the new graphics cards will have a high level of performance on a par with Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 3070.

Intel has confirmed support for ray tracing and company of GDDR6 graphics memory, but otherwise official information is sparse about DG2. One month ago, however, details about the mobile version of the DG2 leaked out in five different performance levels, including a top model with 512 computing units and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory over a 256-bit memory bus.
