Intel’s graphics card is called Arc – will be released in early 2022

When Intel enters the graphics card market, two players will become three. The other two are AMD and Nvidia with their well-established brands Radeon and Geforce, which are used for all graphics solutions with a focus on consumers. After using the architectural name Xe until now (pronounced “See” / editor’s note), Intel launches the Arc brand.

A flashy video clip with a contemporary thump-thump-trailer-by-product presentation on Twitter reveals the new brand Intel Arc intended for graphics cards for consumers. Intel Arc will thus be what was previously called Xe-HPG, where the suffix is short for High Performance Graphics, which is the branch of the architecture Xe that is intended for game-oriented graphics cards.

Not only does Intel give Xe-HPG an actual brand, the company also announces that the launch will take place in early 2022. This is later than the end of 2021 previously communicated by Intel.

What the delay is due to is not known, however, rumors have for a long time claimed that the lack of circuitry put the brakes on Intel’s launch plans. According to previous information, Intel’s graphics circuits will be manufactured on TSMC’s 7-nanometer technology, one of the worst affected nodes. This is used by, among others, arch-rival AMD, which uses the technology for practically all of its products.

In addition to the new Intel Arc brand, full compatibility with DirectX 12 Ultimate and the use of the GDDR6 graphics memory, Intel keeps its cards close to its chest. There are many indications that the first circuit code name DG2 has 512 computing units (EU) and a 256-bit memory bus paired with up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. Performance is believed to be on par with a Geforce RTX 3070.
