Nvidia is sneaking out a leaner version of the Geforce MX150 in laptops

The circuit manufacturer Nvidia offers a wide range of graphics solutions in different performance classes, with Titan V and Geforce GTX 1080 Ti being the company’s top tier. Since the spring of 2017, the Geforce MX150 has been a popular alternative to integrated graphics in laptops, combining relatively good performance with low power consumption.

Notebookcheck now reports that the Geforce MX150 in a leaner version is found in a number of laptops. The weaker variant can be distinguished, among other things, by the designation “1D12”, which is displayed in tools such as GPU-Z. For the more powerful sibling, the designation is “1D10”. The former model is delivered with greatly reduced clock frequencies and thus also lower energy consumption and calculation capacity, which neither Nvidia nor the computer manufacturers point out.

Specifically, it is a base and turbo frequency of 937 and 1,038 MHz, respectively, for the 1D12 variant, which is 36 and 32 percent lower than the 1D10 version. The two models have 2 GB of video memory, but even here the frequencies differ, with 1,253 versus 1,502 MHz. In performance tests, the 1D12 circuits fall on average between 20 and 25 percent behind the faster counterparts.

When it comes to the TDP value, this takes a step down from 25 to 10 watts, which should make a noticeable impression on battery life. It is worth mentioning that the 1D12 version has so far only been found in 13-inch models.
