Intel’s investment in graphics cards is called “Xe” – launched in 2020

In addition to processors, Intel is in full swing with the next generation of architectures on the graphics side, where in addition to improved integrated solutions, they are fighting against AMD and Nvidia. During its 2018 Architecture Day, Intel speaks openly about the future and throws out the official marketing name for the venture – Xe (Vehicle).

The idea is that the Xe series will be used for everything from integrated graphics circuits up to dedicated solutions for enthusiasts and data centers. This is very reminiscent of how AMD names its graphics solutions, where both integrated variants and plug-in cards are called “Radeon RX” followed by model names.

During the event, it also appears that the company plans to cover the entire spectrum of the market from the start. The Intel Xe series will thus be used for everything from integrated graphics circuits to graphics cards from the budget to the enthusiast class and data centers. In other words, Intel aims to be able to wrestle with AMD and Nvidia in all segments of the market from the start.

Intel does not say it outright, but it is probably the long-talked-about architecture Arctic Sound that will be introduced with the Xe series. However, the company confirms that the first generation is manufactured on a 10-nanometer technology, something many have assumed in advance as Intel aims for a launch by the year 2020.
