Italian Red Cross Starts Accepting Donations With Crypto Money To Combat Coronavirus

On 12 March, the Italian Red Cross and Colli Albanian Committee began accepting donations with Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies to combat the new coronavirs (Covid-19) that caused the global crisis.

Revenues from the campaign will be used primarily in the preparation for the fight against coronavirus, then in the purchase of medical supplies, and the increased amount will be used to cover the wages of the medical staff.

Colli Albanian Committee President Bruno Pietrosanti said in a statement that they had to reduce the intensity of hospitalization due to the increase in the number of infected patients and the increase in the occupancy rate in their hospitals. Stating that they are working with Blockchain company Helperbit, which offers platforms for charities, Pietrosanti said, “We believe that an innovative money collection tool like Bitcoin can help us find the necessary economic resources.”

The campaign is also supported by Young Srl, a Fintech company operating in the cryptocurrency industry to support community initiatives, and Blockchain Education Network Italy, a non-profit organization that provides information about Bitcoin and Blockchain on Italian territory.

Young Srl CEO Andrea Ferrero made the following comment on the use of Blockchain technology in collecting donations:

I believe that blockchain technology is more effective and transparent in supporting such initiatives. Young is a company that aims to create or use innovative models to improve existing procedures. We will always be at the forefront of supporting projects of charities such as the Red Cross.
