“Lack of Geforce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 continues into the year 2021”

It would not be an exaggeration to call Nvidia’s introduction of the Geforce RTX 3000 series long-awaited. The willingness to upgrade was further increased when the graphics cards with the architecture Ampere at the bottom turned out to offer an impressive upgrade over the predecessors in the Geforce RTX 2000 series, and at prices that do not increase as much as expected.

When Geforce RTX 3080 from Nvidia and partner manufacturers finally went on sale, the pressure was strong, and the initial asset sold out quickly. The same story was repeated with the Geforce RTX 3090, where Nvidia warned even before the launch that access would be limited. The company has since postponed the launch of RTX 3070 to achieve better access from the start. Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang now announces that weak access is to be expected for the rest of the year, reports Tom’s Hardware.

The statement comes from the graphics fair GTC 2020, where Jensen Huang during a question time is asked what the availability of Geforce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 looks like in the future. The answer is that demand is expected to exceed supply during the rest of 2020. According to Jensen Huang, the problem is not in the company’s ability to produce graphics cards at a fast pace, but that demand is so great that Nvidia has not been able to increase production quickly enough to meet it.

I believe that demand will outstrip all of our supply through the year. Even if we knew about all the demand, I don’t think it’s possible to have ramped that fast. We’re ramping really really hard. Yields are great, the product’s shipping fantastically, it’s just getting sold out instantly.

He further believes that the proportion of functioning graphics circuits (eng. Yield) is very good and that volumes are increasing at a furious pace, but that graphics cards are selling out as soon as they become available. Nvidia recently delayed the launch of the Geforce RTX 3070 from October 15 to October 29, according to its own statement to better meet demand at the start of sales. It remains to be seen whether it will be extra minutes or hours before this addition to the RTX 3000 series sells out.

The launch of the Geforce RTX 3070 takes place the day after rival AMD unveils the Radeon RX 6000 series with the RDNA 2 architecture under the hood. The rumor mill is gossiping in advance about large amounts of graphics memory, and according to AMD’s Frank Azor, the graphics cards in the series should have good access at launch.

Have you managed to get hold of a Geforce RTX 3080 or RTX 3090? If not, are you waiting for Nvidia to release more cards or are you waiting for what AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series has to offer?
