Life is Strange developers receive € 30m investment from Tencent

Chinese gaming giant Tencent continues to gently and unobtrusively grip Western game development teams with its tenacious paws. A few hours ago became known that the corporation invested in the French studio Dontnod Entertainment, known for Life is Strange, Remember Me, Vampyr and other projects, thirty million euros, acquiring a small share of its shares.

Of course, the money received from the Chinese will be used for profitable purposes for the studio. First, Dontnod will be able to independently publish and promote its games, second, gain access to the Chinese video game market, and third, start producing games for mobile devices. It’s not hard to see that the Chinese market and mobile devices are a fusion mixture for making money from video games.

The latest Dontnod project to date is the detective thriller Twin Mirror, in which the protagonist needs to wander through the halls of his own mind to recover memories. The project received, to put it mildly, modest ratings from both professional reviewers and ordinary players.
