Payment giants Mastercard and Visa have invested in fintech company Plaid, which has recently reached $ 2.5 billion. The amount of investment is not disclosed.
Plaid co-founder and CEO Zach Perret announced this on his blog, saying the firm is on its way to creating a consumer-oriented financial ecosystem that will “greatly enhance the ability of clients to manage their financial lives”.
Currently, Plaid gives users the opportunity to connect their bank accounts to the application and serves customers of cryptocurrency companies, including the Coinbase exchange and the Abra wallet operator.
In addition, the company collaborates with American Express and Venmo, a mobile payment service from PayPal. To date, a startup has attracted more
$ 350 million venture financing.
This is not the first time Mastercard and Visa have shown interest in the blockchain industry. In the summer, Mastercard posted
on its website there are three managers’ vacancies for developing projects in the field of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Previously, information appeared that Mastercard and Visa became participants in the Libra cryptocurrency project.
