– The current mid-range power supplies MasterWatt and RevoBron from Cooler Master and Enermax do not make any compromises in terms of equipment and fan quality in the test. However, this makes them expensive, which is why they are difficult against the more efficient and quieter competition from be quiet! and Corsair can exist.
Cool Master and Enermax between the chairs
Mid-range power supplies with prices starting at 60 euros have a difficult time because they have to face a large number of opponents. The be-quiet! -Pure-Power-10 and Corsair Vengeance series already make up strong overall packages in this class. In addition, there are alternatives with even higher efficiency in the form of the BitFenix Formula Gold and the Xilence Performance X series.
More equipment and higher quality
The Cooler Master MasterWatt 450W and the Enermax RevoBron 500W want to serve a different market. They don't want to shine about their efficiency, but rather about their special equipment and high quality, which otherwise only have top-class power supplies. The test clarifies whether this was the right decision to convince.

Technical key data in comparison
Both power supplies have in common the efficiency certification according to 80Plus Bronze. They also have the same dimensions, since the installation depth is a short 140 mm and the fan edge length is 120 mm.
The 12-volt rail is protected against overcurrents on the RevoBron 500W via two separate rails, which is intended to ensure more effective protection. In return, the RevoBron 500W lacks the overheating protection that is relevant, for example, if the fan fails. Otherwise, the protective circuits should be complete, which could only be confirmed in the measurements for the overload protection because the switch-off point was set too high.
Three and five year guarantee
Contacting the manufacturer is particularly easy via the respective website. A return in the event of a defect to the German branch of Enermax proves to be practical for reasons of cost and transit time for the shipment. The Cooler Master service center in the Netherlands is at a disadvantage here. A second option is to return it to the dealer, which is the cheaper but also slower alternative.
The voluntary guarantee is provided by Enermax over a standard period of three years. Cooler Master is a bit more generous at the age of five.
Scope of delivery and exterior
Despite the still relatively low price, the power supplies are equipped with some features that are usually only included in more expensive products. Cooler Master, for example, emphasizes the use of a Silencio FP fan, which is paired with a fan control that allows it to stand still up to a load of 15 percent. Enermax also highlights its fan, which should last for a particularly long time thanks to the Twister bearing. Both manufacturers want to underline this argument with an MTBF of 160,000 hours.
Just like the higher-level power supplies in the Enermax portfolio, the RevoBron 500W also has dust-free rotation technology. When the power supply is started, the dust that is deposited should be loosened by means of the fan rotating backwards and transported out of the system. The manufacturer also emphasizes the exclusive use of Japanese 105 degree Celsius capacitors.
Enermax shines with the scope of delivery
While the scope of delivery was reduced to the bare essentials with a power cord, screws and a manual for the MasterWatt 450W, Enermax would like to convince you here. There are additional Velcro cable ties and with "Coolergenie" a fan control for system fans. The fan control has three 4-pin fan connections and a "Cooler Fan Port" and can deliver a maximum current of 2 amperes. The fans are controlled depending on the load based on the PWM signal of the mainboard. With a switch, you can choose between three options for the semi-passive mode of the system fan, which either deactivates with "Off", or its threshold of active / passive transition with "Silence" to 55 percent or "Whisper" to 40 percent can be set.
The housings of both power supplies are extremely stable. In terms of appearance, the RevoBron 500W wins thanks to the woodchip coating and the powder coating lettering on the sides instead of simple stickers. Enermax also gave priority to the functional aspect of lower air resistance for the fan grille, which has an advantage over a honeycomb grille like the MasterWatt 450W.
cable Features
The differences in the connector configuration are very small, because apart from the two additional 4-pin Molex connectors of the RevoBron 500W there are none. Rather, it is more important that Cooler Master only distributes the peripheral connector over two cable strands and that the floppy connector is firmly integrated in the cable. On the other hand, Enermax offers three of these cable harnesses and a 4-pin Molex to floppy adapter, which increases the flexibility in cable laying. Except for the 24-pin ATX and 4 + 4-pin EPS cable, all strings can be removed from the power supply, so that cable management can benefit in particular from lower-performance systems if not all connections have to be occupied.
It depends on the length of the CPU cable
When it comes to the cable lengths, it is particularly important that the EPS strand is adequately dimensioned, which should normally measure at least 63 cm so that the cable can be laid behind the mainboard tray. Enermax is particularly generous at 70 cm, but Cooler Master could have designed the strand a little larger. Both manufacturers place two PCIe connectors on a cable harness, which leads to greater losses in the cable for graphics cards with high power consumption. Cooler Master counteracts this in that the wires of this strand are designed as thick 16- instead of 18-AWG cable diameters.
The cable sheathing has in turn succeeded Cooler Master. Because there is a sleeve for the mainboard and CPU cables, which effectively bundles the individual wires. The RevoBron 500W designs all strands as ribbon cables, which is particularly disadvantageous for laying the 24-pin ATX cable due to the large number of individual cables.
