Matviyenko named the possible target of sabotage at Nord Stream

MOSCOW, 5 Oct – PRIME. Explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines were arranged in order to prevent further deliveries of Russian gas to Europe, said the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko.

“We have just reached such a big crime when the pan-European structure … was simply damaged in order to prevent further gas supplies from Russia to Europe,” she said during a working meeting with the chairman of the National Council of Namibia, Lucas Sinimbo Muha, as part of her visit to Indonesia.

Matvienko stressed that Russia insists on an objective investigation and has not yet seen an “adequate reaction.” According to her, the incident is blamed for no reason on Moscow, which, due to sanctions, cannot supply its energy resources.

The speaker of the Federation Council also pointed to attempts “by all means” to squeeze Russia into the European market and replace Russian energy resources with American LNG.

A gas leak on the strings of the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 was discovered on September 26 in the Baltic Sea. According to Swedish seismologists, powerful underwater explosions were recorded in the emergency area the day before. Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out that the incidents could have been the result of targeted sabotage.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation initiated the initiation of a case on an act of international terrorism.
