PRAGUE, 12 Oct – PRIME. The two-day meeting of EU ministers in Prague began on Tuesday with a roundtable discussion on the future of gas on the European market, Czech Radio reported.
The meeting of the round table was attended by the head of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade Josef Sikela, the representative of the European Commission Dite Yul Jorgensen, as well as members of the management of the energy companies Net4Gas and ČEZ. Issues of ensuring gas supplies to Europe were discussed at the meeting.
On Wednesday, in the capital of the Czech Republic, which currently presides over the EU, the main discussion will take place, during which EU ministers will discuss, for example, hydrogen and its potential in the “rebirth” of energy, as well as the current geopolitical situation. A possible review of the electricity market will also be considered.
After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia, which led to an increase in prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. At the same time, as Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out, the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
