Media: Greece has gas reserves in case of cessation of supplies from Russia

ATHENS, 9 Sep — PRIME. Greek Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said the country is storing natural gas reserves in Italy to ensure the security of supplies in the event of a cut in the supply of natural gas from Russia, the Athens news agency AMNA reports.

Poland will not force its population and businesses to save gas

Greece does not have its own underground gas storage facilities.

“We store 1 TWh of gas in Italy,” Skrekas said in a message to the Economist conference in Thessaloniki.

“We ensured the security of supplies in time, diversified energy sources and routes, we developed infrastructure and international cooperation, we did everything in human power,” he said.

Skrekas noted that as part of Greece’s energy security measures, a new LNG storage tank at Revitus has been added, there is the possibility of operating gas-fired power plants using alternative fuel (oil) and the production of lignite has increased, which will lead to a corresponding reduction in natural gas imports.
