Media: Truss wants to issue licenses for oil and gas production in the North Sea

MOSCOW, August 30 – PRIME. British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, if she wins the election of the country’s prime minister, intends to approve a series of drilling licenses to extract more gas and oil in the North Sea, as well as the development of new fields in an attempt to ensure Britain’s energy security, writes the Times newspaper.

As notes the edition, these permissions can become one of the first decisions Truss in case of election as the prime minister. The newspaper also emphasizes that senior members of the Conservative Party, including British Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng, are trying to maximize domestic energy production, as well as attract additional gas supplies from Norway.

The newspaper’s sources say that Truss may issue at least 130 drilling and exploration licenses. However, experts believe it is unlikely that such measures will lead to an early decline in energy prices in the UK.

In addition, the Truss government, if it wins the vote, is also expected to encourage companies to invest more in their UK facilities to increase production.

Earlier, the British energy regulator Ofgem announced an 80% increase in the maximum allowable electricity bill for consumers from October 1 due to rising global energy prices. Thus, the maximum bill for the British could increase by 1578 pounds, or 80%. The head of the energy regulator, Jonathan Brearley, warned that energy prices are likely to continue to rise, and called on the future prime minister of the United Kingdom to take new measures to combat rising prices.
