During his developer conference “Build 2020”, held virtually due to the current global situation, Microsoft announced its new supercomputer to feed Artificial Intelligence tasks in Azure, with enough power to become the 5th. fastest supercomputer in the world.

Although Microsoft did not give many technical details of its new supercomputer, the company revealed that it has "More than 285,000 CPU cores, more than 10,000 GPUs, and 400Gb / s connection for each GPU server." They did not reveal the exact potency, although as we mentioned before, they self-designated it as the 5th. fastest supercomputer in the world. We say self-nominated since it is not yet in the official supercomputer ranking, although if what Microsoft says is really true, it should have a computing capacity of between 23.5 and 61.4 petaflops, which are the values that respectively have the 5th. position (To which it surpassed) and 4to position (To which it did not reach) of this ranking.

Regarding its use, it will initially be used for the San Francisco Artificial Intelligence laboratory "OpenAI", facilitating the training of huge AI models thanks to its impressive computing capacity. Later, it will seek to offer part of its processing power through Azure AI so that different scientists and developers can take advantage of the incredible next-generation technologies implemented in this supercomputer.
