Modder fixes support for Fidelity FX Super Resolution in Grand Theft Auto V

AMD’s new upscaling technology Fidelity FX Super Resolution (FSR) has recently been launched and there are thus only a few titles, even though more are in the works. Unlike Nvidia’s DLSS technology, which is hardware – dependent on Tensor cores, FSR does not require any dedicated hardware. Instead, it is an open scaling algorithm that runs on the graphics circuit’s shader units.

Game developers have already expressed how easy FSR is to implement, which does not seem to have been an exaggeration. The modder NarutoUA (via Techpowerup) has on its own implemented FSR to Rockstar’s title Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), with seemingly good results. The mod replaces the game’s own upscaling technique against FSR, and the difference is shown in a video.

AMD has promised open source code for FSR in the future. As this does not yet exist, the modder has used .dll files from one of the games that have already received FSR support to implement it in GTA V. In the picture and video, the FSR variant looks to be slightly sharper than the game’s built-in upscaling and in terms of the happy users of the comment field, it also seems to offer an improved performance.
