Moldovagaz to pay advance payment to Gazprom for August gas

MOSCOW, August 30 – PRIME. Moldovagaz will pay the debt to Gazprom for the gas delivered this month thanks to the decision of the Moldovan authorities to provide $16 million to the Energocom state enterprise for the purchase of energy resources to form a reserve, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said.

Earlier, the Commission for Emergency Situations (ECS) of Moldova ordered to allocate $16 million from the state budget to the state-owned enterprise Energocom for the purchase of ten million cubic meters of gas from the Moldovagaz company for winter reserves.

“This deal will allow the Moldovagaz company to pay an advance payment (to Gazprom for gas – ed.) for August until September 1,” Spinu wrote in his Telegram channel.

Due to the sharp increase in gas prices and the desire of the authorities to keep tariffs for the population, Moldovagaz delayed payments to Gazprom several times and received warnings from it. As a result, the company turned to the Russian oil and gas giant with a request to defer advance payments for August and September until the end of the year.

Gazprom stated that it had exceptionally postponed the payment of the advance payment for Moldovagaz until September 1, but expects that in the future the Moldovan side will unconditionally fulfill its contractual obligations. The head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Cheban, then said that he intended to apply to the Commission for Emergency Situations in order to find options for resolving the issue of paying for gas supplies.
