MSI borrows roasting design with Geforce RTX 3090 Aero

Hardware manufacturers go through periods of success and less successful product launches. The graphics giant Nvidia is no exception, and the architecture Fermi that was the basis for the graphics cards in the Geforce GTX 400 and 500 series was not one of the company’s biggest successes. The GTX 590 performance card with dual graphics circuits also holds the title as the only graphics card that has burned in SweClocker’s test lab.

A salient feature of the Geforce GTX 480 was the card’s eye-catching radiator design, where a rectangular and element-like design was nicknamed the “space heater”. MSI’s latest interpretation of Nvidia’s current flagship Geforce RTX 3090 borrows inspiration from this particular GTX 480 cooler, reports Videocardz. The graphics card in question is called Geforce RTX 3090 Aero and the nostalgic cooling solution includes a single radial fan of blower-type.

The fan sucks in and blows air through a large heat sink, where hot air is in turn sent out through valve outlets on the back of the card. The size of the card occupies two card slots and power is supplied via two 8-pin connectors. The circuit board itself (PCB) is specially designed, but otherwise MSI adheres to Nvidia’s reference board in terms of clock frequencies. The graphics card’s clock frequency runs at 1,695 MHz in the standard version and the TDP level is set as 350 watts.

The report does not state what temperatures the cooling solution is expected to enable, but they will probably end up a bit below those that the Fermi generation’s counterparts were guilty of.

What do you think of the design? Do you have your own experience of graphics cards on variants of the Fermi architecture? Share in the comments!
