MSI shows off R9 290X Lightning at CES 2014

AMD Radeon R9 290X from partner manufacturers has started to find its way onto store shelves and above all it is about the same circuit board as before with a better cooler than AMD’s reference design. However, MSI does not hold back with the new graphics circuit and combines it with the lavish Lightning concept.

The graphics card has a circuit board with a 15 + 3 + 2 phase power supply and three power connectors for 8 + 8 + 6-pin PCI Express. Similar to the reference design, there is a switch for switching between different BIOS, where probably at least one lifts all barriers and turns off power saving functions to facilitate more extreme overclocking. No information is given about the graphics card’s clock frequencies.

The radiator is reminiscent of the MSI Geforce GTX 780 Lightning, but according to the company it is a slightly thicker heat sink. The fans, on the other hand, remain the same and in the middle is a 70 millimeter that can be controlled by end users, while the other two of 100 millimeters are temperature controlled.

The MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning is expected by mid-February and is expected to receive a price tag that is a few hundred bucks above other R9 290X variants.
