MSI shows the new cooling solution Twin Frozr VI with Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming

The partner manufacturers’ variants of Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 have started to find their way into stores and are one of the big news at Computex 2016. Taiwanese MSI is of course on the train with its Gaming series of graphics cards, which are equipped with a new version of the Twin Frozr cooling solution.

The new cooler is called Twin Frozr VI and builds on previous variants. The sixth generation comes with more, smaller and flattened heat pipes. This results in better contact with the graphics circuit, which in this case is Nvidia’s GP104, and should thus provide better heat dissipation.

The other big news with the radiator is that the fan blades have a different angle to the Twin Frozr V, something that will result in higher air pressure against the heat sink. Another news is that the 100 mm fans now come with double ball bearings. In addition, there is a new design and the MSI logo is now LED-lit.

Next to the graphics cards are the names Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X and Gaming Z, which both come with the same circuit boards and power supply via 8 + 6-pin PCI Express. The difference is that the cover plate on the Gaming Z has a cut-out and LED-illuminated logo, which can be controlled via MSI’s own software.

The clock frequencies for Gaming X are 1,683 MHz and 1,822 MHz at base respective boost, up from Nvidia’s reference frequencies 1,607 MHz and 1,733 MHz. This is in the default mode Gaming Mode, there are also two other modes by name OC Mode and Silent Mode which go higher and lower respectively.

MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X will soon appear on Swedish store shelves at the recommended price of SEK 7,599.
