MSI welcomes Ryzen Threadripper 3000 with Creator TRX40 and two other motherboards

MSI announced new motherboards based on the TRX40 chipset, which can support new processors AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3rd Generation. The new processors, which we wrote in detail in a dedicated news story, are based on architecture Zen 2 at 7 nanometers, like the Ryzen 3000 CPUs and the second generation EPYC server CPUs, from which these Threadrippers derive.

The first solution from MSI is called Creator TRX40, and it's a solution E-ATX characterized by an elegant and clean design, with a crystal insert, LED backlit, placed on the heat sink. The latter, entirely in aluminum, has a heatpipe to transfer with heat between the three heat sinks: the one located above the communication ports, the one above the power supply phases and the one of the chipset with fan.

The heatsink placed above the communication ports is designed for optimum passive dissipation, while the cooling fan, equipped with double ball bearings, has a blade design designed for minimize operating noise. Thanks to MSI's Zero Frozr technology, it will also be possible to bring the operating noise to zero, turning off the fan in case of low workloads.

Also there dissipation of M.2 SSDs has been particularly cared for, with a passive aluminum heat sink that has a thermal pad applied on both sides, in order to cool all the memory chips and always guarantee maximum data transfer speed at all times.

On the board, in addition to the new sTR4 socket, they are present 8 quad-channel DDR4 slots with official support for DDR4-3200 memories and overclocking solutions DDR4-4666, 9 PWM connectors for the fans, three connectors for thermal sensors and 9 thermal sensors located in the main points of the motherboard.

There is also support for a possible liquid cooling system, with a dedicated PWM connector, and an aluminum protection to avoid possible interference to the audio department. The 16 + 3 phases power supply, digital type, are powered by two 8-pin connectors dedicated to the CPU and according to MSI not only guarantee a stable power supply, but also a margin for overclocking.

Thanks to the many PCIe lines supported by Threadripper CPUs, this motherboard is equipped not only with four PCIe 4.0 slots which guarantee up to 64 GB / s of bandwidth, double compared to the previous generation, but also support for three M.2 PCIe SSDs unstable directly on the motherboard and others four M.2 SSDs through a special accessory card with active cooling, included in the package. The available PCIe 4.0 x16 slots allow the installation of up to three VGA with dual slot dissipation system, and are reinforced in aluminum for greater resistance.

A door cannot be missing in a high-end product like this 10GbE LAN, in addition to a second Ethernet port, to support high-speed wired networks, very useful in the professional field for the transfer of work files, both 4K RAW videos, and particularly high resolution RAW photographs. For those who decide to rely on a wireless network instead here is the Integrated Wi-Fi 6, which supports the latest technologies OFDMA is MU-MIMO to guarantee a data transmission speed up to 2.4 Gbps.

To conclude the technical features we find no less than 19 USB ports, including four USB 2.0, 8 USB 3.2 Gen1, 6 USB 3.2 Gen2 and one USB 3.2 Gen2x2, and as is now customary in MSI's higher-end products, the Mystic Light support , capable of handling 16.8 million colors and 29 effects with one click control, compatible with RGB LED, Rainbow and Corsair LED strips.

TRX40 PRO 10G, of a slightly lower range, has the main feature of the presence of one additional PCIe card equipped with a third 10GbE Ethernet port, in addition to the two present by default. Compared to the top of the range, there are always double auxiliary power connectors for the 8-pin CPU, but which in this case feed a 12 + 3 power phases, always digital.

The integrated heat sink loses the heatpipe system that connects the three heatsinks, keeping only the connection between the two passive heatsinks. Slots for SSD M.2 integrated directly on the card, they go from three to two, but there is always an additional PCIe card, the M.2 XPander-Z Gen 4, capable of adding two more M.2 slots. Also there are no Wi-Fi connectivity and there are fewer USB ports, while maintaining the presence of the port USB 3.2 Gen2x2 20 Gbps.

TRX40 PRO WIFI it is the last motherboard presented and, as the name suggests, compared to the TRX40 PRO 10G it offers connectivity Wi-Fi 6 and loses the additional card for the third Ethernet port, keeping the other features unchanged. We will start seeing these motherboards starting from the debut of the new Ryzen Threadripper 3970X and 3960X CPUs, that is from November 25th. The cards will be proposed to the recommended prices of 809 euros for the Creator TRX40, 574 euros for the TRX40 PRO 10G and 522 euros for the TRX40 PRO WIFI.
