Andreas Antonopoulos, an entrepreneur and longtime Bitcoin enthusiast, believes that it is unlikely that any cryptocurrency will be able to remove bitcoin and ether from the pedestal in the foreseeable future.

Antonopoulos noted that from time to time “new bitcoin killers” appear – cryptocurrencies that are easier to use and scale better. However, it is precisely the differences from the first cryptocurrency that do not allow them to become the new digital gold.

“How much should new cryptocurrencies differ from bitcoin?” This is a real question, because if they differ too much, they will already occupy a different niche, ”said Antonopoulos.

The cryptocurrency enthusiast also remembered the story of Ethereum, which was once an innovative cryptocurrency. Ethereum introduced smart contracts based on virtual machines and occupied its own niche, but did not shift bitcoin.
