New sonar buoys for the US Navy. Objective? Hostile submarines

Submarines lurk in the depths and, if possible, approach as close as possible to enemy ships without risk of being detected, and sink them with one accurate torpedo. Spotting these silent killers is difficult, but these new sonar buoys for the US Navy will make the whole process much easier.

Sonar buoys for the US Navy

Detecting enemy submarines is not a simple task, and it so happens that hunting them is becoming an even more important part of the US Navy’s operations. Active sonar is used for this, which is based on sound waves transmitted by water, which, while traveling through the water, reflect off underwater objects and return in the direction from which they came.

Based on the received signal, it can be detected whether a given sound wave was reflected by a coral reef, a large fish or a submarine. Then counting the time at which these pulses return allows you to determine the direction in which enemy ships are moving, and referencing several receivers their exact position. That is why it is so important to use the title sonar buoys.

The US Navy knows this very well, so it awarded an $ 11.6 million contract to ERAPSCOI to produce the next-generation AN / SSQ-125A (Q-125A), which was recently officially qualified after 24 months of work.
