Nvidia Ampere gets performance results that outshine the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti

The leaks around Nvidia’s graphics card in the Ampere family are increasing in intensity, which confirms the information about the stated launch in the autumn of 2020. Everything from the cooling solution’s design to specifications has gradually found its way onto the web in recent weeks, and now the same is true for performance results. test suite 3DMark Time Spy.

The results are delivered signed by the constant technology leak _rogame via Hardwarewareaks. The information applies to an unnamed member of Nvidia’s Ampere family, which may be speculative about the Geforce RTX 3080 which is housed among the top models in Nvidia’s Ampere family. In the results, the graphics card achieves a score of 18,257, which is 31 percent higher than the reference model Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Founder’s Edition. The result also surpasses an overclocked Titan V by a good margin.

The only model that manages to achieve higher results is a heavily overclocked version of the EVGA Geforce RTX 2080 Ti XC, where the graphics processor clocks at 2,385 MHz. In comparison, the Ampere graphics card is clocked at 1,925 MHz for the graphics processor, while 6,000 MHz is listed for the graphics memory. The latter, however, are incorrectly reported data from 3DMark, as a multiplication to the practical memory speeds results in improbably high frequencies.

The Ampere family top cards are reported to use GDDR6X memory that operates at significantly higher memory frequencies. According to previously leaked specifications, the Geforce RTX 3080 gets the same number of stream processors as the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, but the graphics memory takes the step from 11 GB GDDR6 at 14,000 MHz to 10 GB GDDR6 at 19,000 MHz. The top card Geforce RTX 3090 is said to switch up to a full 5,248 stream processors and 12 GB GDDR6X at a maximum speed of 21,000 MHz.

The step up from the Geforce RTX 2000 series in terms of specifications thus looks to be a big one. Previous reports state that the Ampere architecture offers 50 percent better performance per watt, which in combination with the more energy-efficient manufacturing technology 7 nanometers ensures that the Geforce RTX 3000 becomes a potent addition. The graphics cards are expected to take up the fight with AMD’s Navi 2X in the autumn, which is led by the flagship circuit “Big Navi” later this year.
