Nvidia announces Geforce GTX 1060 with 3 GB GDDR5 memory

Earlier today, SweClockers was able to reveal that Nvidia is working on a new graphics card for the entry-level segment – Geforce GTX 1050. In order not to make the gap between this and Geforce GTX 1060 too large, the latter is now released in a new version, with fewer CUDA cores and less graphics memory.

The new variant of the Geforce GTX 1060 is largely similar to the previous model, with the exception that a SM cluster with 128 CUDA cores was deactivated. That gives a total of 1,152 instead of 1,280. To differentiate the duo, the one with fewer cores will only be delivered with 3 GB of GDDR5 memory, while the one with more will continue to be equipped with 6 GB.

The new Geforce GTX 1060 3 GB has the same clock frequencies as the 6 GB variant, which with 10 percent fewer CUDA cores is expected to give a corresponding downward adjustment in performance. According to SweClocker’s performance index, this means that the graphics card should be parallel to AMD’s Radeon RX 480.

Nvidia’s latest addition is expected to appear in stores within the next few weeks at the recommended price of SEK 2,299 including VAT.
