Nvidia announces the termination of its plans to acquire Arm after all the legal obstacles

After a long fight with various government regulators, Nvidia gave up and ended its plans to acquire Arm. This has been rumored for a few weeks and has now been officially confirmed by the green company.

According to the official statement, “The parties agreed to terminate the agreement due to significant regulatory challenges that prevent the consummation of the transaction, despite the good faith efforts of the parties.” Furthermore, it is then explained that Arm will now start working towards being a public offering company, which they hope to launch before March 31, 2023.

Statements from the CEOs of both companies were also included, with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, stating the following:

Arm has a bright future, and we will continue to support them as a proud licensee for decades to come. Arm is at the center of important dynamics in computing. Although we will not be a company, we will have a close alliance with Arm. The significant investments Masa has made have positioned Arm to expand the reach of Arm CPUs beyond computing for customers in supercomputing, cloud, AI, and robotics. I expect ARM to be the most important CPU architecture in the next decade.

After this deal falls through, SoftBank Group will keep the $1.25 billion that Nvidia had provided in advance, and Nvidia will remain a licensee of Arm, keeping its license for the next 20 years. It will be interesting to see what Nvidia does taking advantage of this Arm license, since even without a close alliance the possibilities are great, although for now there are no rumors about anything significant on the way beyond the rumors that have been circulating for years and never got to see the light.

What do you think about the fall of this transaction? Would you have liked Nvidia to acquire Arm to see what resulted from combining their products?
