In the next few months, new graphics cards will be released from AMD and Nvidia, which with new architectures and more advanced manufacturing technologies will increase both performance and energy efficiency compared to current ones. Now there are more and more indications that Nvidia will be the first to release Pascal, which is strengthened by the fact that production of several current models will cease.
According to Hardware Battle, Nvidia has stopped production of the GM204, the graphics circuit used by the Geforce GTX 980 and GTX 970. The same applies to the Geforce GTX 980 Ti, although the top model GTX Titan X, which uses the same GM200 graphics circuit, is not mentioned.
The data is consistent with previous data for SweClockers, which indicates that the Geforce GTX Titan X will remain Nvidia’s top model for a while to come. This in turn can be seen as an indication that the GP100 monster circuit for consumers will be delayed for some time in the future.
The trio is expected to be replaced by just three graphics cards, all of which will be based on GP104, which will be a spiritual successor to GM204. In addition to differentiating the number of CUDA cores, Nvidia will segment the circuit further by equipping some with the new GDDR5X memory technology, while cheaper alternatives will remain with GDDR5.
The launch of Nvidia Pascal and GP104 will take place around or in connection with Computex 2016, which kicks off on 31 May and runs until 4 June.
