According to the information, the Geforce GTX 1060 will not be based on a smaller circuit called GP106, but a really stripped down variant of GP104 where the number of CUDA cores has been halved. Another change is that a quarter of the memory bus has been deleted, which reduces the bandwidth to 192 GB / s and the amount of memory to 6 GB – down from 256 GB / s and 8 GB for the GTX 1070 respectively.

The relatively low number of CUDA cores is instead offset by higher clock frequencies, where a turbo value of 1,658 MHz is stated. This would mean that the theoretical computing power lands just above the Geforce GTX 970 (3,920 GFLOPS), which could mean that Nvidia intends to have an affordable solution that just reaches the minimum requirements for gaming with the VR headset Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Compared to the Geforce GTX 960, it is about significantly increased performance, something that is accompanied by a slightly lower TDP value of 110 W.
