Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 can be pre-booked at Swedish retailers from 20 August

It has been two years since Nvidia last launched a new graphics architecture and after many rumors, the company recently unveiled the sequel to it. In accordance with information leaked in advance, the new architecture will be named “Turing” and will first be released with GDDR6 memory.

According to industry sources for Nordichardware, the next generation Geforce will appear at Swedish retailers on August 20, something that is also confirmed by information to SweClockers. According to information, the Geforce RTX 2080, which is expected to be the new top model, will be pre-booked immediately after Nvidia’s press conference held before the Gamescom trade fair.

Earlier this month, several Swedish retailers posted pictures on social media that further indicated whether a new launch from Nvidia is imminent. What is posted are green boxes along with the “Beforthegame” tag, which is the same as Nvidia used in the video they recently published.

When it comes to specifications for the Geforce RTX 2080, no data is available yet. It is likely, however, that they, just like the Quadro models, are equipped with faster GDDR6 memory from Samsung and place great focus on ray tracing.

The new memory circuits double the capacity compared to Samsung’s GDDR5 memory and for the Quadro cards a transfer speed of 56 GB / s is specified. According to Samsung, this is an increase of 75 percent compared to its predecessor

One of the great news with GDDR6 is that it is possible to achieve higher memory bandwidth with a smaller memory bus. For the Quadro RTX 5000 which has a 256-bit memory bus, the memory bandwidth is 448 GB / s, which can be compared with the Geforce GTX 1080 which with the same memory bus and GDDR5X only comes up to 320 GB / s.

Nvidia’s press conference begins on August 20 at 18:00 Swedish time and will also be broadcast live. The launch date for the new model is still unknown, but it is also expected to be unveiled during the event.
