NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 mobile video card performed well in Ethereum mining

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 desktop video card has not yet reached buyers, but its mobile version is already on the market as part of many companies’ laptops. Moreover, it has already been tested in the extraction of the Ethereum cryptocurrency.

Both the mobile and desktop versions of the graphics accelerator are based on the 8nm GA106 chip, but the number of stream processors is different. So, the version for desktop PCs received 3584 CUDA cores, and for portable – 3840 CUDA cores. Power consumption is also different. In the GeForce RTX 3060 Desktop, the TDP is 170 W, and in the GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile, the nominal value is 80 W, but laptop manufacturers can increase the figure to 115 W, and Dynamic Boost throws another 15 W on top.

Hashrate is a unit that measures the computing power of hardware used to mine cryptocurrencies. With an overclocked mobile video card GeForce RTX 3060, we managed to achieve a hash rate of 48.99 MH / s. The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER desktop graphics accelerator demonstrates approximately the same performance, while the GeForce RTX 3070 for desktop PCs turned out to be 19% more powerful.

As you know, memory speed plays an important role in cryptocurrency mining. Probably, for Ethereum mining, a Max-P graphics card was used, where the default effective memory frequency is 14 GHz (Max-Q has 12 GHz). Judging by the screenshot from GPU-Z, the video memory of the accelerator was overclocked to 2125 MHz. This means that the effective frequency has increased to 17 GHz.

During the test, the TDP and TGP limits were set for the video card – 105 W and 56 W, respectively. The GA106 GPU ran at 1567 GHz. It is not yet clear how far the mobile version of the GeForce RTX 3060 is ahead of the desktop in mining cryptocurrency. We will find out next month, when the desktop version gets to store shelves.
