Nvidia Geforce Titan is … Geforce Titan

A few weeks ago, SweClockers revealed that Nvidia has a new monster model up its sleeve. It is about the graphics processor GK110, also known as the full-featured Kepler, which finally appears on the consumer market in the form of Geforce Titan.

Now sources for SweClockers confirm that Geforce Titan is neither a code name nor will be included in a future 700 series. Instead, the model will be called Geforce Titan, alternatively Geforce GTX Titan. The name alludes to the world’s fastest supercomputer of the same name (Titan), which is based on the GK110-based calculation card Tesla K20X.

The full version of the GK110 graphics processor consists of 2,880 CUDA cores with 240 texture units divided into 15 clusters (SMX), a 384-bit memory bus and 48 raster units. However, it is possible that the Geforce Titan will have lower specifications than that, especially considering that the Tesla K20X computing card has a cluster shut down for a total of 2,688 CUDA cores. Performance is estimated at about 85 percent of a Geforce GTX 690.

The launch of the Geforce GTX Titan will be similar to that of the Geforce GTX 690, where partner manufacturers must follow Nvidia’s reference design to the letter. Nvidia thus does not allow specially designed circuit boards, coolers or its own stickers on the graphics card.

The Geforce GTX Titan will be released at the end of February and has a preliminary price of 899 dollars. In addition to this, there is talk that a scaled-down variant of the GK110 will appear later in the year, in order to score a lower price range.
