Nvidia GM200 “Titan II” looks ahead in Sandra – 3,072 CUDA cores and 12 GB of memory

This summer, the first sign appeared that the graphics processor Nvidia GK110, which is used in Geforce GTX Titan, among other things, is about to get a successor. The famous GM200 “Titan II” came to the public’s attention after a mention in a leaked shipping list. Now there is much more concrete information that Nvidia has something great up its sleeve.

The performance database of the test program Sisoft Sandra now reveals an as yet unknown CUDA-compatible graphics processor with as many as 3,072 stream processors. The number of calculation units is 50 percent more than in today’s GM204, which indicates that it is about the monster circuit GM200.

This includes a full 12 GB of memory on the 384-bit memory bus, a substantial upgrade from the Geforce GTX 980 with 4 GB of memory and a 256-bit memory bus. At the specified clock frequency of 6.0 GHz GDDR5, this results in a maximum theoretical memory bandwidth of 288 GB / s – up from 224 GB / s in the GTX 980.

Despite the huge number of calculation units, the clock frequencies are not saved. According to the test program, the graphics processor is clocked at 1.1 and 1.39 GHz base respective boost. The corresponding values for the reference model of the Geforce GTX 980 are 1.13 and 1.25 GHz, respectively.

Although there may now be early test specimens of the Maxwell-based GM200, graphics cards will probably be delayed, at least in the consumer market. If Nvidia is true to tradition, the calculation cards in the Tesla series are instead the first in line for the upgrade.
