NVIDIA hackers demand that GeForce drivers be open source

The novel continues, and the story of the cyberattack on NVIDIA servers that unleashed a wave of confidential information continues to speak, now the group behind the hack made its second demand.

The first lawsuit was to prevent public disclosure, which NVIDIA may not have complied with. Now with the second lawsuit, the hackers want the company to launch Open Source drivers, open source on all platforms. If not, the group plans to make another part of the stolen files public.

According to the hackers, the upcoming leak includes sensitive files related to the design of the company’s silicon, including Verilog (.v) files and VG files. They also claim to be in possession of files related to upcoming hardware, including the elusive RTX 3090 Ti that we were due to look at a month ago and never arrived.and upcoming releases.

The Hackers group sets a date until March 4 (Friday) to meet their demands.

“After evaluating our position and that of Nvidia, we have decided to add one more requirement.

We request that Nvidia commit to make a FULL OPEN-SOURCE version (and distribute it under FOSS license) of its graphics drivers for Windows, macOS and Linux, now and forever.

If this request is not met, we will release the FULL SILICON, GRAPHICS AND COMPUTER CHIPSET FILES for all recent NVIDIA GPUs including the RTX 3090 Ti and UPCOMING REVISIONS on Friday. Of course, this includes all files with extensions like .v, .vx, .vg, and more.

So Nvidia, the choice is yours! O well:

-You officially make current and all future drivers for all open source cards, keeping Verilog and chipset trade secrets… well, secrets…
O
-Not making drivers open source, by having us publish all chip files at the silicon level so everyone knows not only the secrets of your graphics drivers, but also your most closely guarded trade secrets for chipsets graphics and computers.
