Nvidia launches Geforce GTX 1060 with 5 GB of graphics memory

When Nvidia presented the Geforce GTX 1060 in 2016, it was about two variants of the graphics card with graphics memory of 6 GB or 3 GB. The latter was also a slightly scaled-down graphics circuit. A few months later, another variant of the card found its way onto the market, where the memory clock frequency was increased to 9,000 MHz.

After a period of rumors, third-party manufacturer Gigabyte now confirms that the previous cards will be joined by a new version of the Geforce GTX 1060. This model houses 5 GB of GDDR5 memory with a memory frequency of 8,008 MHz and a 160-bit memory bus. As a result, the memory bandwidth is 160 GB / s, which is 32 GB / s lower than for the 6 GB card, which otherwise has identical specifications.

The product is aimed at the Asian market, where internet cafés are expected to use them to run Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, which has become very popular in China, among other places.

In terms of performance, the graphics card is placed in the relatively narrow range between the Geforce GTX 1060 with 6 GB and the edition with halved memory. However, this is done at a lower TDP value of 75 watts, which means that the card can be operated without additional power supply from a 6-pin PCI Express connector.

To date, there are no indications that the Geforce GTX 1060 5 GB will be launched outside Asia. Information regarding prices is unknown.
