NVIDIA launches GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER and 2070 SUPER, they are the top for laptops

After the many rumors leaked in recent weeks, NVIDIA has definitively removed the veils at graphics cards GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER is GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, substantially updating its catalog and further raising the level of graphic performance of the notebook high-end. The Californian manufacturer is preparing together with the partners to propose a new wave of laptops dedicated not only to gamers – see the line for creator RTX Studio – with prices now start at $ 699 for models with GeForce GTX 16 and $ 999 for those based on GeForce RTX 20.

The main protagonists of today's announcement, namely the RTX 2080 SUPER and 2070 SUPER. are two GPUs that receive the same treatment as related SUPER desktop variants presented in July, or rather a net increase of Cuda Core in the face of slightly lower clock frequencies in boost mode. Here are the technical specifications of the new GeForce RTX with Max-Q design:

The cut of the Boost frequencies on the new GeForce RTX models must not be misleading; this choice is dictated by the increase in CUDA Core, also, thanks to new features introduced by NVIDIA, the performance will be significantly optimized as well as energy efficiency.

Then there is another small novelty, namely a revision of the GeForce RTX 2060 that we could define a 2020 version: by carefully observing the specifications, in fact, we note how this GPU maintains the same technical characteristics (CUDA, memory, etc), except for the Boost frequencies that from 1200 MHz of the first version of 2019 they now go to 1185/1560 MHz with TDP configurable from 65 to 115W.

Important news of the GeForce RTX 20 for notebook is the renewed Max-Q technology that, thanks to new measures, and in particular to the new functionality Dynamic Boost, allows to double the efficiency compared to the first generation. In this way NVIDIA guarantees a net increase in performance for the same consumption, all by optimally balancing the load between GPU and CPU. The graphs below make the idea of this new technology better:

Another noteworthy update concerns the NVIDIA Optimus technology, now Optimus Advanced which, thanks to the introduction of the Dynamic Display Switch, allows to considerably optimize the transition from integrated to dedicated graphics, all with a clear advantage of consumption and performance; NVIDIA also specifies that this new technique will also allow the use of more advanced displays with 4K / 120Hz support and G-Sync.

To complete the picture there is then the support for DLSS 2.0 (Deep Learning Super Sampling 2.0), a technology that exploits the power of machine learning and Tensor Cores to generate high quality images starting from poorly defined frames, all in favor of the FPS in game (we talked about it HERE).

In conclusion, we can say that NVIDIA offers a substantial update regarding the graphics cards for high-end notebooks, improvements that not only go to optimize performance, but above all the energy efficiency and the typical features of notebooks with dual graphics chips ( integrated and dedicated).

The partners are ready to put on the market different solutions with models like the Lenovo Legion 7 (first notebook with NVIDIA Optimus Advanced), theAcer Triton 500 or the next Razer Blade; at the moment the list prices of these new products are not known and they will most likely debut on the market very soon.
