Nvidia launches Geforce RTX 2080 Super on July 23 - gets specifications and price

On July 7, AMD launches its new graphics architecture Radeon DNA (RDNA), where the two models Radeon RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 were supposed to go up against Geforce RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 respectively. today, two weeks earlier than first planned, on the confidentiality of RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super.

* Values apply to Nvidia’s Founders Edition of each model, which comes with 90 MHz overclocking. In addition to slightly higher performance, this in all cases leads to an increase in TDP of 10 W.

One model remains in Nvidia’s new Super family of graphics cards and it’s the Geforce RTX 2080 Super, which will be launched at a later date. The model is equipped with the graphics circuit TU104 in its full-featured design with 48 SM clusters, compared to the original RTX 2080 which has 2 clusters disabled.

These are 3,072 CUDA cores, 192 texture units, 384 Tensor cores and 48 RT cores dedicated to ray tracing. This is flanked by 64 raster units and a memory bus of 256 bits, which like its predecessor is connected to 8 GB GDDR6.

New on the memory front with the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Super are increased clock frequencies directly from the factory. It is about an efficient clock frequency of as much as 15,500 MHz, which over a 256-bit memory bus gives a theoretical bandwidth of 496 GB / s – just over 10 percent up to the previous 448 GB / s.

Nvidia is also increasing the clock frequencies on the graphics circuit for the Super variant of the Geforce RTX 2080. The base frequency goes up from 1,515 MHz for the RTX 2080 to 1,650 MHz for the RTX 2080 Super, while boostthe frequency steps up to 1,815 MHz from 1,710 MHz in the official basic version. Compared to the Founders Edition model, this is a minor increase of only 15 MHz.

Despite a full-featured graphics circuit and higher clock speeds, Nvidia specifies the graphics card to a 250 W TDP, which is the same level as its predecessor. The design of Nvidia’s reference design Founders Edition is the same as before, which means an identical circuit board with supply cooler. Aesthetically, the mirror-gloss diaphragm differs from the new Super logo.

Finally, this graphics card is also expected to be “unlocked” like the new Geforce RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super, where Nvidia has released previous barriers that have made it difficult to overclock Turing-based graphics cards. How much there is to pick up, however, remains to be seen and is something SweClockers will look at a little further ahead.

Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Super steps in as a direct replacement for RTX 2080, which is thus discontinued. The recommended price remains at the same level, officially 699 USD and 8,199 kronor including VAT in Sweden. The launch will take place on July 23.
