Nvidia lists Geforce GTX 1060 with 6 GB GDDR5X memory

Nvidia’s long-lived graphics architecture Pascal has been joined by graphics cards based on Turing, with news such as real-time beam tracking and GDDR6 graphics memory. For graphics cards in the budget and mid-range segment, the Geforce GTX 1000 series still applies, where the GTX 1060 is a variant that is available in Europe with 6 or 3 GB of GDDR5 memory.

The said graphics card has also been presented with slightly increased memory frequencies, and models with 5 GB of memory are available in the Asian market. The Nvidia US website now lists the Geforce GTX 1060 in another version, where the 6 GB memory is of the faster GDDR5X type.

GDDR5X memory with frequencies of 10,000 and 11,000 MHz, respectively, is used for both Geforce GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti, but it remains to be seen which frequencies are involved for the GTX 1060 card. Geforce GTX 1060 with GDDR5 memory in reference version has a memory frequency of 8,000 MHz and theoretical bandwidth of 192 GB / s. With an increase to 10,000 MHz, this instead lands at 240 GB / s.

The Geforce RTX 2000 and GTX 1000 series will coexist until 2019, which can be partly attributed to the large surplus stocks of graphics circuits that have arisen since the interest in mining cryptocurrencies has cooled. The faster memory type for the Geforce GTX 1060 is expected to result in a smaller increase in performance to be able to compete with AMD’s Radeon RX 590, which is rumored to be on the way.
