Lack of circuits and electronics combined with sky-high demand means that business is flourishing for many companies in the semiconductor industry. The first quarter of the year meant a financial record for AMD, which almost doubled its revenues, a pattern that now continues when Nvidia reports its figures for the first quarter of the year.

Traditionally, companies operating on the consumer side make a worse first quarter than the one that ended last year, where Christmas shopping boosts sales. Like AMD, Nvidia also breaks this trend and increased significantly during the first quarter. On an annual basis, the company’s revenues increased by 84 percent, while net profit increased by as much as 108 percent.
Our Data Center business continues to expand, as the world’s industries take up NVIDIA AI to process computer vision, conversational AI, natural language understanding and recommender systems. NVIDIA RTX has reinvented computer graphics and is driving upgrades across the gaming and design markets. Our partners are launching the largest-ever wave of NVIDIA-powered laptops. Across industries, the adoption of NVIDIA computing platforms is accelerating. – Jen-Hsun Huan, VD på Nvidia
The growth is attributed to all segments in Nvidia’s portfolio, from the Geforce graphics cards with the latest RTX 3000 series to Tesla for data centers. The world continues to make increasing purchases to accelerate AI (artificial intelligence) computing, an area Nvidia has been focusing on for a number of years with its graphics architectures. This has also had a significant impact on growth.
The category Gaming accounted for $ 2.76 billion of revenue, which is an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous quarter and 106 percent on an annual basis. Here, Nvidia consistently talks warmly about the Geforce RTX 3000 series and especially the launches of the RTX 3060, RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3050 for laptops.
Datacenter accounted for $ 2.05 billion in revenue, up 8 percent from the previous quarter and 79 percent year-over-year. The segment Professional Visualization contributed $ 372 million and the car category Automotive for $ 154 million.
It’s no news that mining contributes to the fact that there is a shortage of graphics cards and that the completely sonic phenomenon contributes to Nvidia’s sales. How much this contributes to sales in the category Gaming does not appear. However, Nvidia tells them mining-oriented graphics cards Crypto Mining Processor (CMP) accounted for $ 155 million. Sales of these are also forecast to grow to $ 400 million during the second quarter of this year.
When Nvidia looks ahead, a continued upward trend is forecast. During the second quarter of the year, the company expects revenue of $ 6.3 billion, plus or minus 2 percent, ie an increase of just over 12 percent compared to the first quarter. The gross margin is expected to be 64.6 percent, plus or minus 50 base units (0.5%).
