Nvidia nails the launch date of the Geforce RTX 3060

The top tier of the graphics card market has been full of new models since the autumn of 2020, while the store shelves are empty. When it comes to graphics cards in the lower price and performance classes, AMD is reportedly about to present variants for the middle class, while Nvidia has already made a difference with the launched Geforce RTX 3060 Ti and unveiled sibling RTX 3060.

The “Ti” -less sibling stepped into the spotlight during the company’s presentation at CES 2021, where the middle class’s most outstanding feature was a memory capacity of 12 GB. At present and isolated to the “Ampere” family, only the Geforce RTX 3090 breaks this. At the time, Nvidia announced that the card will debut towards the end of February, a time that is now being nailed to 25 February.

As of Thursday, February 25, compact Geforce RTX 3060 cards will accompany the larger ones.

It is already known that the recommended price tag is 329 USD, which Nvidia translates to a starting price of 3,650 kronor. Via The Verge, Nvidia confirms a premonition about which versions are waiting for the intermediate model, and it is clear that the variant Founders Edition will not be available. Official presentation photos show both two- and three-fan coolers from various partner manufacturers, but eager players have also lifted the lid on compact Mini ITX models.

In terms of other specifications, Nvidia lists the new graphics circuit GA106, which in the case of the Geforce RTX 3060 comes with 3,584 active CUDA cores. The memory bus stops at 192 bits for a theoretical memory bandwidth of 360 GB / s, which is usually lower than for the rest of the RTX 3000 family. Also lower is the specified TBP value of 170 watts, a level that, however, completely crushes the possibilities for small cards without external power supply.

It remains to be seen what price levels the partner manufacturers are aiming for, but even more central is the issue of availability. A few Swedish retailers such as Webhallen have already listed some models with prices in the range of SEK 3,990 to SEK 5,990, but whether they are sold in volume and whether the prices are adjusted for launch remains to be seen. The cards can be purchased from 25 February at 18:00 Swedish time.
