Nvidia suggests that Ampere will be unveiled in May

Nvidia annually hosts the Graphics Technology Conference (GTC), where the company mainly focuses on technology related to data centers, artificial intelligence and self-driving cars. This year’s fair was originally scheduled for March 23, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event also regularly premieres Nvidia’s upcoming graphics architectures, which this year are represented by the architecture Ampere.

Speculation about a unveiling of Ampere during the 2020 edition of the GTC is now gaining ground. In connection with Nvidia unveiling the date for the digital GTC 2020 event, the company chooses to start the press release with the wording “Get Amped”. It is thus not a concrete confirmation but a clear hint in the context.

Ampere is the name of the sequel to Nvidia’s current graphics architecture Turing. Expected news includes increased capacity in terms of calculation units, improved ray tracing-capacity in the form of RT units and enhanced machine learning through Tensor cores. The architecture will also be Nvidia’s first to be manufactured at 7 nanometers. On the consumer side, Ampere is expected to take place in the Geforce RTX 3000 series, which takes up the fight with AMD’s graphics card on the RDNA 2 architecture.
