Before Computex, Nvidia gossiped that the company had a “Super” news on the way, but no further details were revealed. Since then, Computex has come and gone, and the E3 trade show has begun without new information about Nvidia’s super-news. However, a new report from Wccftech reveals that this is an upgrade of the entire Geforce RTX 2000 series.
According to the report, Nvidia will launch Super variants of all graphics cards in the series, including its Ti variants. The majority of these models will offer an intermediate step between the model they refer to and the models step above.
For example, a Geforce RTX 2060 Super should be equipped with a TU106 circuit from today’s RTX 2070, an RTX 2070 Super uses a TU104 circuit from today’s RTX 2080 and an RTX 2080 Super gets a TU102 circuit from today’s RTX 2080 Ti and 11 GB GDDR6. In addition, all circuits must be “unlocked”, which is said to mean that partner manufacturers have freer hands to pair these with more powerful VRM parts and increase the frequencies higher from the factory.
In addition to the new Super models, which are said to replace similar products in the current set, the RTX family will get two new graphics circuits. Geforce RTX 2070 Ti Super and RTX 2080 Ti Super will both be equipped with new graphics circuits, which according to the report are not scaled-down circuits from the Quadro family either.
model | Graphics circuit | VRAM | Price level |
---|---|---|---|
Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti Super | New circuit | ? | ? |
Nvidia RTX 2080 | TU102 | 11 GB | $1 199 |
Nvidia RTX 2080 Super | TU102 (RTX 2080 Ti, ej OC) | 11 GB | ~ RTX 2080 |
Nvidia RTX 2080 | TU104 | 8 GB | $699 |
Nvidia RTX 2070 Ti Super | New circuit | ? | |
Nvidia RTX 2070 Super | TU104 (RTX 2080, not OC) | 8 GB | ~ RTX 2070 |
Nvidia RTX 2070 | TU106 | 8 GB | $499 |
Nvidia RTX 2060 Super | TU106 (RTX 2070, not OC) | 8 GB | ~ RTX 2060 |
Nvidia RTX 2060 | TU106 | 6 GB | $349 |
The circuits will be equipped with more CUDA cores and higher clock frequencies, but no further details on number and frequencies will be revealed. The RTX 2070 Ti will be equipped with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory and will position itself between the RTX 2070 Super and the RTX 2080 Super. The Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Super will be the new flagship, but information on the available amount of graphics memory is not stated in the report.
All graphics cards in the Super array will be equipped with a more expensive solution for power supply (VRM), which means that they will have significantly improved capacity for overclocking directly from the factory. Partner manufacturers are said to be able to equip the RTX 2080 Ti Super with a TDP capacity of 300 watts if they so wish.
The report further speculates that Nvidia is likely to lower the prices of existing RTX graphics cards’ offerings. This means that AMD’s recently introduced graphics cards in the Radeon RX 5700 series compete with both the existing range of graphics cards in the RTX 2000 series as well as their upgraded Super variants.
In that case, it would make AMD’s performance comparisons with existing RTX 2000 cards less attractive in terms of price-performance ratio. The report also states that the launch of the new set of graphics cards with the Super suffix is close at hand.
June 21 is the date when the new series will be announced, with a warning that this may be adjusted slightly. Towards the end of June, Nvidia’s product range can be upgraded across the board.
