Nvidia would be planning to launch an RTX 2060 with 12GB in January 2022

It seems that Nvidia’s plans for early 2022 not only include the RTX 30 series with its Super versions, but also include the RTX 20 series, with a new version of the RTX 2060 that would feature 12GB of GDDR6 memory.

This new variant of the RTX 2060 would arrive 3 years after the RTX 2060 6GB, released in January 2019, and would be based on the TU106-200A-KX core instead of the TU106-200A-KA core that the original edition uses. It is not yet clear why Nvidia would launch this new variant of the RTX 2060, although apparently the idea is to expand the graphics stock below the RTX 3060 for those looking for a cheaper alternative than the smaller of the Ampere graphics cards currently offered.

After hearing this news, it seems that the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti will finally remain exclusive for notebook PCs, and we will not see them on the desktop as originally estimated. Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense to release a 12GB RTX 2060 if these RTX 3050s were released.

It will be interesting to see if this rumor ends up being true, since it sounds strange that Nvidia releases a new version of a graph released 3 years ago, although in this time of scarcity, anything can happen.

What do you think about this rumor? Would it make sense to launch an RTX 2060 with 12GB of memory?
