Over 3 billion Bitcoin and Crypto transactions completed in 10 years

According to a report by Blocknative, more than 3.1 billion crypto transactions were carried out between 2009 and 2019. The startup analyzed the 24 most important public blockchains, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Blocknative, a blockchain-based company based in San Francisco, conducted research to calculate the number of crypto-transactions completed in the past 10 years.

Based on data from CoinMetrics, the report also aims to estimate the number of blockchain transactions to expect in the future.

In total, we aggregated the transactions of two dozen unique channels […]. This then allowed us to calculate a compound annual growth rate over 5 years for the entire ecosystem, ”says Blocknative.

And according to the California startup, the growth trend is " encouraging ". Indeed, more than 37% (~ 1 billion) of all transactions on public blockchains took place in the past year.

In 2019, Bitcoin recorded 259 million transactions, followed naturally byEthereum, and its huge network of DApps, with 242 million operations.

Blocknative also took into account transactions made on blockchains Bitcoin Cash, litecoin, Ripple (XRP), Binance Coin or Stellar, to name just the most popular.

The industry has experienced a compound annual growth rate of 44% over 5 years. Just assuming that current trends remain unchanged, we can expect almost 20 billion new blockchain transactions over the next 5 years, ”wrote the seedling.

At this rate, Ethereum, Bitcoin and eventually EOS could thus cross the threshold of one billion transactions per year by 2023, she says.
