Poland’s prime minister blames Germany for energy crisis

MOSCOW, 11 Sep — PRIME. Germany is to blame for the energy crisis that has swept the European Union because of the policy of cooperation with Russia, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.

“It is becoming clear that the German energy policy that Berlin has always boasted of is in ruins. The abandonment of coal and nuclear (power plants – ed.) was premature, the construction of Nord Stream and the associated dependence on Russia is out of the question. Germany’s policy has caused enormous damage to Europe,” the Polish prime minister said.

At the same time, Morawiecki accused the German authorities of indecisiveness in the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine, adding that he was not alone in his assessment of German policy.

“It is not what is written on paper that is important, but what is actually implemented. <…> Berlin’s hesitations and inaction seriously cast doubt on the value of an alliance with Germany. And we are not the only ones who say so,” Morawiecki said.
