Power supply of the Zaporozhye region is carried out regularly

SIMFEROPOL, 11 Sep — PRIME. Electricity supply to the Zaporozhye region against the background of the shutdown of nuclear power plants is carried out regularly, without interruptions, said the chairman of the movement “We are together with Russia”, a member of the main council of the administration of the Zaporizhzhya region Vladimir Rogov.

The authorities of Zaporizhzhya spoke about the possibility of restarting the ZNPP power unit

Earlier, the authorities of the region informed about the shutdown of the last operating sixth power unit of the nuclear power plant. The so-called “cold shutdown” mode was applied, the reactor is cooled by the operation of diesel generators, the authorities of the Zaporozhye region reported.

“The power supply of the Zaporozhye region is carried out without interruptions, regularly. Everything is fine. Electricity is everywhere,” Rogov said to RIA Novosti.

The head of the regional administration, Evgeny Balitsky, in turn, said that power engineers would switch high-voltage lines and energy infrastructure to provide the Zaporozhye region with electricity after the shutdown of the last ZNPP power unit.

“This threatens with interruptions in electricity at the first stage. Most likely, a number of switches will be made (at high-voltage lines and substations), such tasks have been set, we have a plan B,” Balitsky said on the air of Rossiya 24.

The reason for stopping the power units of the Zaporozhye NPP is related to the possibility of an emergency due to the constantly changing load and operating modes of turbines and reactors due to shelling of high-voltage lines and energy infrastructure, the authorities noted.

Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March, it has been under the protection of the Russian military. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that this step was justified in order to avoid leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials. The Ukrainian military continues to regularly shell Enerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant adjacent to the city.
