Powercolor and Club 3D present the Radeon HD 7870 with the Tahiti LE

It is rumored that AMD is about to release another graphics card in the Radeon HD 7000 series. The newcomer Tahiti LE is a cut-down variant of the circuit used for the performance-oriented 7900 series, but will nevertheless be called the Radeon HD 7870. Now Powercolor and Club 3D present two models with the new graphics processor.

The newcomers are called Powercolor Radeon HD 7870 Myst. Edition and Club 3D Radeon HD 7870 Jokercard respectively and are apparently identical, which is no coincidence considering that both are supplied by the graphics card maker TUL Corporation. On the circuit boards, the graphics processor Tahiti LE houses an unspecified number of stream processors, according to rumors 1,536 – 20 percent more than the standard model’s 1,280 computing units (Pitcairn XT).

In addition, the 256-bit memory bus, 2 GB memory and the clock frequencies 925/975 MHz GPU and 6.0 GHz GDDR5 are noticeable. The graphics card also has a custom cooler with a centered fan and outputs for DVI, HDMI and two Mini Displayports. Last but not least, all the usual features from the 7000 series are visible, including support for DirectX 11, AMD HD3D and Eyefinity as well as compatibility with Windows 8 and UEFI.

The official launch of the Radeon HD 7870 with Tahiti LE is expected to take place on November 27. The graphics cards are said to be positioned against the Geforce GTX 660, which would mean a price point of just under SEK 2,000 including VAT. However, it is rumored that only AMD-exclusive manufacturers like TUL Corporation and Sapphire will release new models with the cut-down graphics processor – the rest will skip the launch.
