Powercolor Turbo Timer cools the graphics card after shutting down

Computex is a trade fair where odd concepts and projects are displayed, much thanks to the proximity to technology centers in Taiwan and China. Far from all, however, are launched, many stay at the design stage and never reach mass production.

In the borderland between idea and reality, there is, among other things, the Powercolor Turbo Timer. The module is basically a plug-in board with capacitors and a control circuit, which is mounted on compatible graphics cards. The function is simple – the fans continue to rotate for a few minutes after the computer shuts down.

The theory is that additional cooling will quickly push down the temperatures of the graphics processor and surrounding components. According to Powercolor, the result is a longer life for the graphics card compared to if the heat is allowed to disappear naturally.

Turbo Timer is currently ready for production, but Powercolor is still not sure about the product’s future. The module only fits the company’s Radeon R9 270X PCS +, and the compatibility with future models is uncertain. According to Powercolor, the price tag lands at “under 100 dollars” excluding VAT.
